Damp is one of the most common problems in City Bowl homes. Table Mountain's moisture shadow, winter rainfall, older building stock without effective damp proof courses, and semi-basement spaces create ideal conditions for multiple types of damp. Get the diagnosis right before treating.
Types and Treatments
Rising damp (tide marks at wall bases) needs chemical injection - not paint. Penetrating damp (wet patches after rain) needs the entry point sealed. Condensation needs ventilation improvement. Each requires a different treatment. Never paint over any damp type without treating the source.
Never Paint Over Active Damp
Paint applied over active damp blisters and peels within weeks. The underlying moisture problem worsens. Always identify and treat the source before any painting or decorative work. See our wall preparation guide.
Gardens Painters assesses damp before recommending any treatment. We fix the cause - not just the symptom.
