Wall preparation is the foundation of any lasting paint job. In Gardens' City Bowl environment - older building stock, winter rain and heritage plaster - preparation is even more critical than in newer suburban areas.
Step 1: Biological Treatment
Gardens' shaded, moisture-rich environment makes it one of the more active areas for biological growth in Cape Town. Apply fungicidal solution before washing on all exterior surfaces, especially south and east-facing elevations. Never paint over live biological growth.
Step 2: Old Paint Assessment and Repair
Test existing paint adhesion before adding another coat. Failed paint must be removed - on heritage lime plaster, do this carefully. Fill cracks, prime all repaired surfaces. See our heritage guide for product advice on lime plaster.
Gardens Painters never skips preparation. Every surface cleaned, treated, repaired and primed before topcoat.
